SETIU WETLAND TOUR (2.00pm to 7.00pm)

This is a 5 hours cruise & tour in the Setiu Wetland area. Participants will have the opportunity to explore and experience Malaysian wetland flora and fauna for example monitor lizards, monkeys,  eagles etc. The tour includes a short stop at the river terrapin nesting area where representatives of ecotourism organisations will release mature river terrapins into the wild. Refreshments are served against a mangrove setting before returning to the hotel.

14:00pm – Depart from Sutra Beach Resort Merang to Setiu Wetland

14:35pm – Arrival Gong Batu, Cruise along Setiu wetland mangrove swamp river, you will be greeted by wild animals like monitor lizard, monkeys, crabs, colourful birds and eagles. Visit oyster and fish farm.

15:45pm – Walk along boardwalk to Pengkalan Gelap UNDP-Petra community mangrove regeneration project, briefing, mangrove replanting by some participants and refreshment.

17:00pm – Depart to Penarik riverside, Briefing about river terrapin (batagur baska) research and conservation project along Sungai Setiu. Release river terrapin into the river. Visit WWF community project at Kampung Mangkuk & Turtle Conservation Centre.

18:30 pm – Transfer back to Sutra Beach Resort (ETA 19:00pm)
